Title: Cochrane Systematic Reviews – a practical guide for junior doctors

Background to the discussion

In this journal club, Akriti Nanda (Academic Foundation Doctor based in Oxford) joined the Cochrane UK Trainees to discuss Cochrane Systematic Reviews. They looked at the anatomy of an abstract, sussed out summary of findings tables and delved into the decision making that goes on when applying evidence-based medicine (EBM) to real-life situations. They used a Cochrane Review on the management of chronic / recurrent acute tonsillitis as the basis for their discussions: Tonsillectomy or adenotonsillectomy versus non‐surgical treatment for chronic/recurrent acute tonsillitis.
