Title: Evidence based medicine and COVID-19: navigating the infodemic
Background to the discussion
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a significant challenge for evidence based medicine. How do we deal with the overwhelming amount of evidence being produced? How do we balance the need for high quality evidence against the desire to respond quickly in a rapidly changing environment?
The focus of this journal club was on the impact of COVID-19 on evidence based medicine. Using this article on Ibuprofen and COVID-19, published in the BMJ as a starting point, the trainees explored how evidence-based medicine has changed during the pandemic, the challenges facing trainees, and how organisations such as Cochrane are developing resources to help.
