Reporting on the event for trainees and students (15 September 2018)

On Saturday 15th September 2018, we hosted a day of interactive workshops as well as inspirational talks from renowned speakers for trainees (of any speciality) and students (of any discipline) interested in evidence-based health care. The aim was to enthuse, entertain and inform trainees and students about key issues and challenges in the production and application of evidence.

The theme of the event was ‘Cochrane for all – better evidence for better health decisions’. Attendees learnt more about the work of Cochrane and were challenged to think critically about key issues in the world of evidence-based health care, such as shared-decision making, patient and carer involvement in research, and how to apply evidence in everyday clinical practice.

Attendees received a certificate of attendance and there was a networking event in a local pub following on from the event.

Competition:

Attendees were also invited to submit a short video or audio recording (under 5 minutes) explaining any of the following topics: PICO, p-value, confidence interval, bias, risk ratio, Number Needed to Treat, systematic review, meta-analysis. These were judged according to their educational and entertainment value. Congratulations to Sarah Tanveer, for her winning entry explaining the PICO (Patient, Intervention, Comparator, Outcome) Framework. Sarah received a free ticket to attend the event and £50 worth of book vouchers.
