Professor Martin Burton elected as Co-Chair of the Cochrane Board

Professor Martin Burton (Director of Cochrane UK) has been elected as Co-Chair of the Cochrane Board, for an initial term of two years. 

The Cochrane Governing Board is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of Cochrane’s strategic direction.  It also oversees the work of Cochrane’s Chief Executive Officer and Central Executive team, which supports development and delivery of all work across Cochrane groups and projects.  Martin has served as a member of the Board, and Treasurer, and already has substantial leadership experience in Cochrane as Director of Cochrane UK and Co-ordinating Editor of the Cochrane Ear Nose & Throat Disorders Group. 

He will share chairing duties with Professor Cindy Farquhar, who is Co-ordinating Editor of the Gynaecology and Fertility Group, based in Auckland, New Zealand.

Dr Bruno Holthold welcome Professor Burton's appointment saying, 'Martin's invaluable experience as a past Cochrane Board member and his leadership as Director of Cochrane UK will ensure his chairmanship will benefit the Cochrane Community greatly'.  

Martin also holds the following positions: Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Oxford, Honorary Consultant Otolaryngologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Fellow in Clinical Medicine at Balliol College.
